"We Can Do It!" - Red, White, and Blue Makeup Inspired by Rosie the Riveter

Here's a patriotic makeup look you won't want to miss.

Whether you’re hosting a July 4th backyard barbecue, celebrating Labor Day, or entering a Rosie the Riveter costume contest, red, white, and blue makeup is the most patriotic makeup choice you can make. Here are three easy makeup techniques to easily express loyalty to the USA.
Blue Winged Eye Shadow
  • Apply primer and concealer around your eyes.
  • Add white shimmer (we suggest Graftobian’s White Opal Shimmer) on the eye and at the brow line. Then, work your bright blue shadow from the outside corner to the inside corner of your eyes.
  • Apply a line of black eyeliner in a winged shape. Start from the inside corner of your eye and pull out to the outside corner, keeping close to the lash line. 1940’s starlets and pinups favored minimal eye makeup, so less is more.
  • Finish your look with a pair of lashes and a quick pass of the eyebrow pencil. After all, Rosie was known for her bold brows.
  • If you’re feeling especially patriotic, choose red, white, and blue eyelashes.
Red Lips and Cheeks
Ben Nye Creme Rouge Blush ($6.00)

It’s time to set off your red, white, and blue makeup with a splash of red on your lips and cheeks. Apply some Ben Nye lipstick in Siren Red or Red Coat. You can apply it directly from the tube or with a brush. Then, using a large rouge brush, sweep Ben Nye’s blush in Red across your cheekbones.

Rosie the Riveter Hair
  • Use bobby pins to twist and pin large sections of your hair into a loose up-do.
  • Grab your bangs or a large section of hair near the top of your forehead and tease it out with a brush. Then pin it into a loose curl, letting that curl spill onto your forehead.
  • Take a red and white bandana. Fold it in half at an angle and tie it around your hair, knotting the narrow ends over the curl on your forehead.
Every American loves holidays. July 4th and Labor Day are days to kick back with friends and family and celebrate our country’s vibrant history and independence. Try this red, white, and blue makeup and you’ll declare your style independence with Rosie the Riveter as your muse. As always, look to Mallatt’s for all of your theme party costume, makeup, and accessories needs.
